Detectives have successfully intercepted a truck carrying 132 bales of bhang along the Garissa-Thika Road in the Kyanunda area of Mwingi. The operation, conducted last night, led to the arrest of two male suspects identified as Daniel Yohana and Ismail Wako, the driver and co-driver of the vehicle respectively.

The intelligence-led operation, executed by a joint team, resulted in the discovery of an initial 28 bales concealed on the roof cabin of the KAT 198H Isuzu truck. Subsequently, the truck was escorted to the DCI Headquarters for further investigation by Anti-Narcotics detectives.

Upon thorough inspection, authorities uncovered a false bottom within the vehicle, reinforced with robust bolts and rails, where an additional 104 bales of bhang had been hidden. In an attempt to evade suspicion, the truck was also transporting 31 mattresses, which the driver claimed were being delivered to customers.

The apprehended suspects have been placed in custody at the Muthaiga Police Station, while the seized exhibits await weighing and sampling.
In a separate operation conducted yesterday at the Fedha Estate in Embakasi, Nairobi, a 51-year-old woman identified as Mary Adhiambo Opollo and her accomplice, Charles Kimani Wanjiku, 24, were arrested after sachets of heroin weighing 650g were discovered in their residence at Fedha Heights apartment. The arrests followed a tip-off regarding their involvement in drug trafficking activities.

Both operations were carried out jointly by the DCI’s Anti-Narcotics and Operations Support Units, demonstrating a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking and related crimes in the region.
