Bishop Kariuki Challenges Vatican, Bars Blessings For Same-Sex Couples

Bishop Paul Kariuki Njiru from the Catholic Diocese of Wote has prohibited priests from blessing same-sex couples, opposing Pope Francis’ directive.

Bishop Kariuki argued, in a statement, that the Vatican’s decision contradicts scriptural and Catholic traditions regarding marriage and sexuality. He pointed out that the ‘FIDUCIA SUPPLICANS’ declaration lacks clear guidelines for blessing couples in irregular situations or same-sex relationships, expressing concern that it could pave the way for quasi-ritual blessings in liturgical settings in the future.

The bishop criticized Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez for insufficient consultation before releasing such contentious declarations and stressed the importance of adhering to the Catholic Church’s teachings on family as a faithful, indissoluble, and fruitful union between a man and a woman.

He urged clergy to avoid ambiguous gestures and expressions that could distort or misrepresent God’s word and the Church’s teachings.
