The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed an aircraft accident involving a Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopter in Samburu County.
The aircraft went down at Lolokwe Mountain on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while flying from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro. According to KCAA, the crash occurred at approximately 9:13 am local time, with the aircraft mid-flight between the two locations when the accident took place.

The confirmation follows earlier reports of a helicopter crash near Kirish, close to Mt Ololokwe, with smoke and fire reportedly visible at the scene. KCAA said it is working alongside relevant agencies and stakeholders to coordinate the response to the accident.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are being led by the Air Accident Investigation Department under the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
Police had earlier indicated that seven tourists were on board the helicopter at the time of the crash, though their nationalities had not yet been established. Locals and rescue teams were reported to be making their way to the crash site.
KCAA had not immediately provided details on the circumstances of the accident or the condition of those on board, stating that investigations would work to establish the full facts as relevant agencies continue to respond to the incident.
The Authority extended its condolences to the families of those affected by the crash, which occurred at Lolokwe Mountain, an area near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County.
