Several Vehicles Destroyed as Fire Breaks Out at Kilimani Garage

Several vehicles were destroyed after a fire broke out at a garage along Ole Dume Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, leaving mechanics and vehicle owners facing significant losses.

The incident occurred early Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with Nairobi County Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service Geoffrey Mosiria visiting the scene as emergency crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

Mosiria said the affected garage housed more than 200 mechanics and that a large amount of property had been destroyed in the fire.

He explained that the county received an emergency alert through its call centre and quickly deployed fire engines to the scene.

Fire Brought Under Control

Mosiria said firefighters had managed to contain the blaze but were continuing operations to extinguish any remaining flames and prevent the fire from spreading.

The cause of the incident had not been established at the time, with Mosiria saying experts would investigate and determine how the fire started.

Both mechanics operating at the garage and customers who had left their vehicles there were affected, with several vehicles reportedly destroyed.

Mosiria said the financial losses could amount to millions of shillings, considering the number and value of the vehicles damaged or destroyed.

He also commended members of the public who raised the alarm and helped emergency responders react quickly.

The county emergency teams worked alongside mechanics at the garage to control the fire and limit further damage to property.

Firefighters remained at the location as they worked to fully extinguish the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire and the total value of property lost are yet to be confirmed.
