The growth was driven by rising adoption of digital financial services and the steady expansion of mobile money agent networks across the country.

Safaricom maintained its dominance in the sector, accounting for 89.1 percent of total mobile money subscriptions during the period.

The number of registered mobile money agents also recorded significant growth, rising from 501,399 to 602,470. This represents a 20.2 percent increase within a single quarter, further improving access to financial services nationwide.

The sector’s expansion has been supported by continued investment in digital infrastructure, including Safaricom’s ongoing upgrades to its M-Pesa platform. The company recently completed the M-Pesa Fintech 2.0 upgrade, aimed at boosting transaction capacity and enabling new digital financial products.

In the financial year ending March 2026, M-Pesa processed about 46.41 billion transactions valued at approximately Sh41.68 trillion, reinforcing its central role in Kenya’s financial system.

Small-value transactions remained dominant on the platform, with about 17.1 billion “Kadogo” transactions recorded, accounting for 36.8 percent of total volumes.

Safaricom noted that these figures highlight the growing reliance on mobile money for everyday transactions among households, informal traders, and micro-enterprises across the country.
