The suspects—William Imoli Shighali, also known as Omar Shakur, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, David Mihigo Kagame, and police officer Juma Ali Hikal—were brought before Magistrate Irene Gichobi, who allowed prosecutors 30 more days to finalize their investigations.

Prosecutors stated the extension would assist in tracking down additional suspects, including another police officer believed to have coordinated the attack using a phone number registered under a false name.

According to police, Imoli, who is suspected to have fired the fatal shots, was arrested in Roysambu with two accomplices. He later directed investigators to Hikal’s residence, where a suspected getaway vehicle was found.

CCTV footage reportedly shows Imoli following the MP in town while carrying a bag believed to contain the murder weapon. Police boots allegedly worn by the suspect were recovered from Hikal’s home.

Searches also turned up ammunition, teargas canisters, police uniforms, over $4,800 in cash, and multiple mobile phones.

A postmortem conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed the MP died from severe bleeding after being shot five times in the chest. Authorities believe the killing was carried out by a sophisticated, well-funded criminal ring.
