The examination, conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor at Lee Funeral Home on May 5, concluded that the MP died from massive internal bleeding. “Survival was highly unlikely due to the extent and positioning of the wounds,” Dr. Oduor stated.

Were was killed on April 30 along Valley Road near City Mortuary in what police suspect was a planned assassination.

Four suspects — William Imoli Shighali, Juma Ali Hikal (a serving police officer), Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, and David Mihigo Kagame — were apprehended on Sunday and presented in court at JKIA Law Courts.

They will be held for 30 days as investigations continue.

Senior Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi approved the prosecution’s request to detain the suspects longer for evidence gathering and additional searches at their homes. Investigators are still searching for the murder weapon, and the motive remains unknown.

President William Ruto condemned the killing, calling it an attack on national stability. “We will track down the killers and their accomplices. There will be no hiding place,” he said, pledging decisive action.

Police spokesman Michael Muchiri revealed the suspects were arrested in early-morning operations in Dandora and Eastlands. Some are believed to be members of the Mjahidin gang, linked to violent crimes in Nairobi.

Authorities recovered three motorcycles — including one believed to have been used in the escape — and two vehicles, one suspected to be the getaway car. The primary suspect was tracked from the USIU area to Dandora and later led officers to an accomplice’s hideout.

The National Police Service has deployed elite units to pursue leads, urging the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as the complex investigation unfolds.
