Gachagua: Ruto Is Forming ‘Wheelbarrow’ Parties in Mt Kenya to Divide Votes

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Kirinyaga residents against joining political parties he alleges President William Ruto has formed to fragment the Mt Kenya vote.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, Gachagua urged residents to remain loyal to DCP, warning them not to fall into what he called “William’s wheelbarrow party trap,” and insisted that DCP remains their home party through which they should pursue their political future.

He further alleged that these newly formed parties are specifically aimed at splitting the Mt Kenya vote, urging residents not to be swayed. Gachagua accused Ruto of using Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku as tools to divide the region politically.

The DCP leader also issued a warning against aspirants who hire goons, vowing to disqualify any candidate found using such tactics regardless of their popularity.

Gachagua further accused the Ruto administration of extrajudicial killings, claiming the government has killed and injured young people, and called for its rejection at the ballot.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina echoed similar concerns, accusing the government of instigating violence in an attempt to justify postponing elections, insisting such a move would not be feasible. Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango, meanwhile, warned young people against allowing themselves to be used by politicians to stir up confusion.

In Kiang’ombe, Gichugu, former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici was once again not formally introduced during the event, despite calls from her supporters for her to be recognized.
