Five people were killed instantly and several others critically injured in a devastating crash involving a lorry and two vehicles on Sagana-Karatina Road in the Kibirigwi area, Ndia, Kirinyaga County.
The incident occurred when a lorry, transporting bags of maize, lost control while traveling towards Sagana and collided with two private cars heading in the opposite direction towards Karatina.
Kirinyaga West Sub-county Police Commander Moses Koskei confirmed the fatalities, stating that five individuals died on the spot, while one person was rushed to the hospital by officers. The driver of the lorry also sustained injuries in the accident.
Koskei added that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. Local resident Githiru Wanjohi, who witnessed the scene, reported that the lorry was speeding before it overturned and spilled maize bags across the road.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kerugoya Mortuary, where they are awaiting identification. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
