LSK president Faith Odhiambo described the incident as a dark moment for the legal profession and the country, sending condolences to the family and friends of the slain advocate.
“The legal fraternity has lost a distinguished member whose dedication and excellence greatly shaped Kenya’s legal and governance landscape. Mbobu’s contribution as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi and his scholarly works, especially in the law of evidence, will continue to guide future generations of lawyers,” she said.
She further praised his leadership as the former chair of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal, noting that his legacy remains indelible.
Odhiambo also voiced concern over the safety of advocates, saying the killing bore the hallmarks of a planned assassination.
“Advocates are too often victimised for their work. This attack highlights the alarming risks lawyers face in the course of their duty,” she added.
She condemned the act as an assault on justice, urging that lawyers must be allowed to discharge their constitutional roles without fear.
“We demand immediate action. The DCI must urgently investigate, track down, and prosecute those behind this heinous crime,” she stressed.
According to police, Mbobu was attacked around 5:40 p.m. while driving home. He was reportedly followed by two assailants on motorcycles who sprayed his vehicle with bullets before escaping. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

His body was taken to Lee Funeral Home, while his vehicle was towed to Lang’ata Police Station as detectives pursue leads. Investigators have not yet identified the attackers or established the motive but are treating the case as a targeted killing.
