Samidoh Announces Bid for Ol Joro Orok MP Seat

Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, popularly known as Samidoh, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in Nyandarua County.

In a detailed message to residents, Samidoh said his decision was not based on his fame as a musician, but on his personal connection to the constituency, his upbringing there and his desire to take part in leadership and decision-making.

He described Ol Joro Orok as his home and said his political ambitions had been shaped by his life experiences and the challenges he encountered while growing up.

“I am a son of Ol Joro Orok. This is home. This is where my journey began,” he said.

Samidoh recounted how he lost his parents at a young age and faced numerous challenges before building a career in the Kenya Police Service and later establishing himself in the music industry.

He said his journey had been driven by faith, determination and hard work, helping him achieve opportunities he once considered out of reach.

His career has taken him from villages in Ol Joro Orok to performances across Kenya and abroad, exposing him to different communities, institutions and opportunities.

However, the musician insisted that his decision to seek elective office was not motivated by his celebrity status.

He said his years of using music to highlight issues affecting ordinary Kenyans had convinced him that advocating for change was no longer enough and that he wanted to participate directly in the institutions responsible for making laws and shaping government policies.

Samidoh also cited his participation in the “One Term” campaign, saying it reinforced his belief that citizens should have the power to question leaders and demand accountability.

He said he now hopes to take that advocacy to Parliament, which he described as the institution where the concerns and interests of ordinary citizens should be represented.

Education is among the issues he identified as a priority in his proposed leadership agenda.

Samidoh said he wants to see an Ol Joro Orok where no child is forced to miss school because their parents cannot afford education-related expenses.

He also proposed easing the financial pressure on families with children in day schools. Under his proposal, parents could contribute towards meals and other agreed needs, while the government gradually takes greater responsibility for school fees.

He said his ambition is ultimately to use public office to address challenges facing residents and ensure their concerns receive stronger representation in Parliament.
