DCI Probes Death of Intern Medic at Nakuru Hospital

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru is currently investigating the unexplained demise of an intern doctor at the Margaret Kenyatta Mother-Baby Maternity wing in the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital.

As outlined in a statement by Nakuru County Executive Member for Health Services, Roselyn Mungai, the intern’s body was discovered in the trenches outside the maternity wing at around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Mungai clarified that, according to initial findings, the body exhibited no visible injuries, and the individual’s personal belongings remained intact. The police subsequently moved the body to the hospital morgue.

Mungai revealed that the deceased had been identified as one of the medical officer interns who had been serving at the hospital since August 2023. Expressing regret over the unfortunate incident, she conveyed Governor Susan Kihika’s deep condolences to the family, friends, and the entire Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital community for the tragic loss.

The County Government of Nakuru, Department of Health, is actively engaged in the matter, and Mungai assured that the DCI and the police are working diligently to investigate and determine the precise cause of death. The family of the deceased has been informed, although they had not provided a statement at the time of press.”
