Aroko, accompanied by his lawyer Danstan Omari, denied any involvement in the April 30 shooting that occurred near City Mortuary in Nairobi. He told investigators that he had not been hiding and insisted he was innocent.

“I just saw on X that I was wanted. I wasn’t in hiding — I’m a law-abiding citizen and have nothing to do with the MP’s death,” Aroko stated. His lawyer accused the state of politicizing the matter.

“This is nothing but political persecution. My client was going about his usual business and has been unfairly targeted,” Omari said, adding that they plan to challenge what he called harassment in court.

Earlier, the DCI had issued a notice summoning Aroko and emphasized that his cooperation was vital to the ongoing murder investigation. The agency urged him to present himself at the nearest police station and labeled him a person of interest.

Aroko, who is a known political figure in Homa Bay County, is said to have shown interest in running for the Kasipul parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.

The DCI also urged the public to report any information relevant to the case via toll-free numbers 999, 112, or through #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203), assuring confidentiality for all tips.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen disclosed that investigators suspect individuals close to the late MP may have been involved in his murder. Six suspects have already been arrested, with more apprehensions anticipated.
