The government has dispatched police and military helicopters, alongside medical teams and Kenya Red Cross personnel, to assist in ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in Elgeyo Marakwet County following the devastating floods and mudslides.
Authorities have confirmed that the death toll has climbed to over 20, with at least 17 bodies recovered so far and dozens of people still missing.

Embobut MCA Paul Yatich reported that six bodies were retrieved from his ward, while another 11 were discovered in various parts of the Kerio Valley.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen sent his condolences to the affected families and communities, expressing the government’s solidarity with those impacted.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Endo, Sambirir, and Embobut Wards in Marakwet East Constituency following the devastating landslide that has claimed lives, destroyed property, and damaged key infrastructure, including road networks,” said Murkomen.
Emergency teams continue to evacuate survivors and airlift the injured to Eldoret for medical attention as the search for missing persons intensifies.
