Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged a political conspiracy aimed at dividing the voting bloc of Mt Kenya. Dismissing these attempts, he issued a warning that those orchestrating such plans would not succeed.
This revelation comes two weeks after certain MPs from the region pledged support for Kiharu Lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro’s political dominance in the area.
Gachagua, speaking at the Kiambu Golf Club during a Thanksgiving event for golf champion Michael Karanga, stressed the intelligence of the people of Mt Kenya and their awareness of the ongoing political dynamics. He labeled those attempting to divide the region as enemies.
During the gathering, Gachagua emphasized the high stakes involved, asserting that the Mt Kenya region could not afford division. He pointed out the adverse impact of disunity and divisive politics in past elections.
Rather than engaging in political maneuvering, the Deputy President urged leaders to focus on economic growth. He called for unity among the region’s leaders to encourage increased youth participation in productive economic activities.
Several leaders from the region who accompanied Gachagua pledged their support for him. Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, stating that there was an attempt to divide the region through intercounty politics. She emphasized the need to focus on development and President William Ruto’s success instead of succession politics.
EALA lawmaker Maina Karobia added, “During the 2022 campaigns, we said it was President Ruto ten years without a break and the same for DP Gachagua. I urge my colleagues in the Mt Kenya region that we focus on the development and success of the President, not the succession of leadership. Let us stop the politics and internal wrangles.”
Gachagua also extended an olive branch to leaders across the political spectrum, urging them to embrace unity. He emphasized moving past election debates and focusing on the region’s development and unity behind President William Ruto.
Regarding the country’s economy, the Deputy President called for patience, assuring Kenyans that President Ruto’s efforts to revive it were underway. He acknowledged the challenges inherited by President Ruto and urged citizens to work hard, emphasizing that improvements would take time.
