In the inaugural match of the Rugby Super Series at the RFUEA Grounds, the Lions demonstrated their prowess by defeating the Rhinos with a score of 29-7.
Under Coach Oliver Mang’eni’s guidance, the Lions surged ahead with a commanding 22-0 lead by halftime, dictating the flow of the game.
The Lions’ early dominance was evident through first-half tries by Givens Onyango, co-captain Obat Kuke, and Felix Ojoo, along with successful conversions and a penalty kick, extending their advantage.
The second half saw the Lions maintaining their momentum, with Emmanuel Opondo’s try and a conversion by Namusasi pushing their lead to 29-0, firmly establishing their control.

Despite a late surge from the Rhinos, led by Coach Callum Oliver, and a temporary numerical advantage due to a yellow card for Eliakim Kichoi, the Rhinos struggled to break through the Lions’ defense, with handling errors hampering their efforts.
In another match, the Cheetahs secured a 21-10 win over the Buffaloes in challenging conditions.

Taking a 15-5 lead into halftime, the Cheetahs held onto their advantage in the second half, with Quinto Ongo’s contributions, including two penalty kicks and a conversion, proving crucial. Clinton Juma and Celestine Mboi also added tries to the Cheetahs’ tally, while Collins Indeche scored the Buffaloes’ sole try.
With these outcomes, the Lions lead the Rugby Super Series standings with a bonus point, followed by the Cheetahs in second place. The Buffaloes and Rhinos occupy the third and fourth spots, respectively.
The Rugby Super Series continues with upcoming fixtures at various venues, including the Nakuru Athletic Club and The Bullring in Kakamega, culminating in the final matches at the RFUEA Grounds on May 25, 2024.
