FKF Cancells Two Sunday Matches Due to Waterlogged Pitches

FKF has called off two premier league matches slated for Sunday due to waterlogged pitches.

The fixtures, which were set to feature Nairobi City Stars against Ulinzi Stars and Posta Rangers against Talanta FC at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, have been cancelled, according to a statement by national broadcaster KBC, which was set to broadcast the games live.

“We apologize to our viewers for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

The decision was made after an assessment by Match Commissioner Joseph Wajina, who declared the pitches unsuitable for play due to extensive waterlogging, with approximately 80% of the field affected.

Nairobi City Stars CEO Patrick Korir expressed support for the decision, emphasizing player safety and injury prevention. Discussions regarding rescheduling will involve all stakeholders, including the federation and broadcasters.

Both Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti and Ulinzi Stars tactician Anthony Kimani acknowledged the disappointment among players but understood the unavoidable circumstances. They affirmed their teams’ readiness for the rescheduled fixtures.

Meanwhile, other premier league matches scheduled for Sunday proceeded as planned, with Kakamega Homeboyz facing Police FC at Mumias Sports Complex and AFC Leopards taking on Bandari at Dandora Stadium.
