President William Ruto has congratulated marathon great Eliud Kipchoge after the 41-year-old won the Melbourne Marathon in Australia in a new course record of 2:09:10.
The victory is Kipchoge’s first marathon win since the 2023 Berlin Marathon and marks a strong return to form.

In a message of congratulations, Ruto described the two-time Olympic champion as one of the greatest marathon runners the world has ever seen, saying he continues to compete and win at 41 while flying Kenya’s flag high on the global stage. He called the Melbourne triumph another remarkable achievement and a source of inspiration, ending his message with “Hongera, Kipchoge!”
The win follows a few tougher outings for the athlete. Kipchoge finished 12th at the Porto Alegre Marathon in Brazil on July 12, clocking 2:18:42, and 16th at the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa in 2:13:29, his first marathon on African soil.
Those races form part of a global mission to run a marathon on every continent, which Kipchoge is using to extend his legacy beyond his Olympic triumphs and record-breaking performances.
