The seizure is part of a nationwide campaign targeting drug trafficking and the sale of unlicensed alcohol.
In a press statement, NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa revealed that the raid was carried out after receiving a tip-off, leading authorities to a well-known drug dealer’s base in Nyamonye Market.
“This operation is a major win in our ongoing battle against drug and alcohol abuse,” Omerikwa stated. “We will not stand by as dishonest traders ruin the futures of our young people.”
The multi-agency operation covered the suspect’s residence, business location, and rental properties, uncovering 4,600 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa and 11 brooms of what is believed to be bhang, pending further analysis.
Authorities also impounded eight cartons of cigarettes allegedly headed to Uganda and South Sudan, along with 118 cartons of spirits, 107 cartons of another spirit variety, and 12 cartons of liquor.
In a surprising discovery, four safes suspected to contain money from illegal dealings were found during the operation. “The contents are under investigation, but we suspect the funds are proceeds from unlawful activities,” said Omerikwa.
Two individuals were taken into custody and are being held at Bondo Police Station. They are expected to be arraigned on April 7.
This raid follows a similar drug bust in Kisii County last week, where contraband worth Sh8 million was recovered, indicating a broader effort to stamp out illegal drug networks.
“This is just the beginning,” warned Omerikwa. “We are intensifying our efforts nationwide to dismantle these criminal enterprises and protect our youth.”
NACADA’s heightened operations align with the government’s broader strategy to combat illegal substances and safeguard public health.
