Kenya’s baseball team earned a silver medal, alongside the Best Coach and Best Player awards, at the Youth Africa Baseball Intercontinental Championship held at Western Cape Sports School in Cape Town, South Africa.
Ranked 15th globally, Team Kenya triumphed over Tunisia and host nation South Africa—ranked 5th and 8th respectively—to secure a spot in the November Youth Baseball World Cup in Mexico. The Kenyan squad also triumphed over Zimbabwe and Lesotho before falling to Ghana in the final.
The prestigious tournament saw six regional teams compete, with Kenya emerging as the top team in East Africa to qualify for the event. Under the leadership of Coach Joel Wangicho, who was named Best Coach of the Championship, the team is now focused on building on their success as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Mexico.
Following their return, the team visited the Migori County Department of Sports, where they expressed their excitement and determination to excel at the World Cup. Wangicho emphasized that the experience in South Africa has provided valuable insights, helping to further develop baseball in Kenya.
