Five people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a four-storey building under construction in Suneka, Kisii County.

The incident occurred on Sunday, raising concerns that the death toll could rise as more individuals may still be trapped beneath the debris.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the victims included construction workers and residents living near the site. The building, which was still being built, came down unexpectedly, trapping an undetermined number of people.
Rescue teams managed to pull four individuals out alive, who were then taken to hospitals in Kisii for treatment. However, two of them later succumbed to their injuries. Three bodies were recovered from the rubble.
The collapse happened in the Itierio area and also affected neighboring homes and businesses located near Itierio Primary School.
Police and county emergency teams remained at the site, continuing search and rescue efforts. One individual was reportedly communicating with rescuers while still trapped under the debris.
The Kisii County government was expected to release an official statement regarding the incident, while the Kenya Red Cross led the emergency response and recovery operations at the scene.
