Devki Group is planning to establish a multi-billion-shilling cement manufacturing plant in Karicheni, Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, in an investment expected to create employment and reduce construction costs across the Mt Kenya region.
The proposed factory is expected to employ hundreds of people while lowering cement transportation costs for businesses and consumers in the region, where traders say high fuel prices have pushed up distribution expenses.

Speaking during a public participation meeting, Devki officials led by James Wainaina assured residents that the company would address environmental concerns associated with the project.
Wainaina said the company was committed to ensuring that the plant would not cause pollution and that other environmental issues raised by residents would be addressed.
Cement traders in the region anticipate that prices could decline by approximately 10 per cent once the factory begins production. However, the actual reduction will depend on production expenses and distribution costs.
Local leaders welcomed the proposed investment, noting that Nyeri has had limited large-scale manufacturing activity.
Kingori Wanjohi said the establishment of the plant would mark a significant milestone for the county’s industrial development, expressing optimism about the economic opportunities the investment could bring to the area.
