The fatal attack occurred within his uncle’s compound around 9:30 am on Sunday, according to a police report.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Seme and officers from Bodi Police Station arrived at the scene to find Okeyo’s body with severe injuries to the head and other parts of the body. Nearby were sticks and stones, believed to have been used in the assault by the mob.

Authorities reported that Okeyo had been armed with a variety of weapons—including a panga, slasher, hoe, and rungu—and is accused of launching an attack on his neighbours that began the previous evening. Among the victims was 59-year-old Johnston Otieno, whom Okeyo allegedly struck on the forehead.

On Sunday morning, police say Okeyo continued his rampage, moving from house to house while wielding blunt and sharp objects, damaging windows and threatening residents. He also allegedly smashed the windows of a villager’s car.

His aggressive and destructive actions provoked anger among residents, who eventually overpowered and fatally assaulted him.

Investigators processed the scene, and Okeyo’s body was taken to Kombewa County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem. Police have launched an inquiry into the events surrounding the incident.
