Over 1,000 Flood Victims Rescued in Baringo South

1,048 individuals affected by flooding in Baringo South, specifically from Longeiwan, Sintaan, and Eldume villages, have been safely relocated to secure locations over the past two days, as confirmed by the Kenya Red Cross.

The Kenya Red Cross announced on Monday, May 6, 2024, that around 1,048 flood victims have been successfully rescued from the affected areas within Baringo South.

This achievement was made possible through collaborative efforts involving the National and County Government, local communities, Savage Wilderness, and the Kenya Red Cross, according to a statement released by the Kenya Red Cross.

However, despite these efforts, the Kenya Red Cross acknowledged that there are still individuals stranded in Sintaan, Baringo South, and arrangements are being made to evacuate them promptly.

In a separate development, the Kenyan government disclosed on Sunday, May 5, 2024, various measures it has undertaken to aid flood victims across the nation.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki outlined that the government has established 138 shelters across 18 counties, accommodating a total of 62,061 flood victims.

Moreover, Kindiki reported that approximately 227,238 individuals have been affected by the torrential rains, resulting in damage to 1,967 schools. Tragically, 237 people have lost their lives, 164 have sustained injuries, and 72 individuals are reported missing due to the severe weather conditions and subsequent flooding.

Furthermore, a staggering 42,526 households have been displaced, impacting roughly 212,630 people.
