Speaking on Monday before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, Ruku detailed his assets, noting they include land and buildings, a family residence, Sacco contributions and savings, private company shares, and motor vehicles.

“My assets include Sh40 million in land and buildings, a family home valued at Sh60 million, Sacco and savings worth Sh15 million, private company shares totaling Sh250 million, and vehicles valued at around Sh12 million. Altogether, this brings my net worth to Sh377 million,” he told the committee.

It is a standard requirement for Cabinet Secretary nominees to disclose their financial status during the vetting process led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

President William Ruto nominated Ruku on March 26, 2025, to take over the position from Justin Muturi, who was relieved of his duties.

Ruku, 45, is a close ally of President Ruto and currently serves as a Member of Parliament, having been elected under the Democratic Party (DP) in the 2022 general election with 17,069 votes. He previously contested unsuccessfully in 2013 and again in 2017 under the Jubilee Party for the Embu Senate seat.

During the vetting session, Ruku pledged to reform the Public Service sector, focusing on equitable employment practices. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that public appointments reflect the country’s diversity as outlined in the 2010 Constitution.

If confirmed, Ruku vowed to discharge his duties impartially and with integrity.
