Trade Cabinet Secretary nominee Salim Mvurya disclosed a net worth of Ksh.158 million during his appearance before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments for vetting on Saturday.
This is an increase of Ksh.38 million from the Ksh.120 million he reported in September 2022, when he was previously vetted for a ministerial position.
Mvurya, who was the Mining and Blue Economy CS at the time, explained that his wealth grew due to the appreciation of his properties, which include real estate, vehicles, land investments, and savings.
In 2022, the committee questioned the relatively modest net worth given Mvurya’s decade-long tenure as Kwale County Governor.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah asked why Mvurya’s wealth seemed conservative compared to his reported salary and other possible sources of income.
Mvurya responded that he had taken out loans during his governorship, which he focused on repaying.
