Safaricom Hits Historic Sh100 Billion Profit Mark

Safaricom has reported a record-breaking profit of nearly Sh100 billion for the 2025 financial year after net earnings surged by 67.3 per cent to Sh99.7 billion.

The telecommunications giant linked the strong performance to innovative products and services that continue to improve customers’ everyday experiences.

The latest earnings mark the highest profit ever posted by a company in both East and Central Africa.

Safaricom’s service revenue also rose by 10 per cent to surpass the Sh400 billion mark, while losses from its Ethiopian operations were reduced by half. The company recorded stronger momentum in the second half of the year, with service revenue growing by 10.7 per cent compared to 9.3 per cent in the first half.

M-Pesa remained the company’s biggest growth engine, accounting for 59.2 per cent of total revenue growth. The mobile money platform expanded its contribution to total revenue to 45.6 per cent after registering a 13.4 per cent year-on-year increase.

Meanwhile, the connectivity segment remained Safaricom’s largest source of revenue, posting a 6.9 per cent growth driven largely by a 14.4 per cent rise in mobile data usage. Fixed service revenue also climbed by 12.2 per cent, supported by strong growth in the consumer market.
