In the realm of global achievements, Kenyans are making notable strides beyond the track, and one such individual is Milton Isalano, who stands as a chef extraordinaire for the prestigious English Premier League club, Manchester United.
Isalano revealed that his journey with Manchester United commenced in 2005, during the tenure of Sir Alex Ferguson as head coach, where he assumed the role of a senior chef. Prior to this, Isalano honed his culinary skills as a Pioneer Senior Chef at the Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi from 1991 to 2002.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Isalano shared that alongside his tenure at Manchester United, he has held esteemed positions, notably serving as the Head Chef of V.I.P Escape Lounges at Manchester Airport from 2010 to 2014, where he catered to high-profile clientele including the Manchester United and Manchester City football teams.
To grasp the intricacies of working for such an esteemed club, Isalano elaborated that Manchester United boasts 26 kitchens, requiring the expertise of 120 chefs on a single match day. Furthermore, he expanded his culinary repertoire by working at the top-rated Gotham Hotel from 2015 to 2018, serving distinguished personalities such as X-factor stars Simon Cowell.
Isalano’s journey to culinary excellence began in Kenya, where he pursued short courses at Kenya Utalii College and Kenya Polytechnic. Subsequently, he ventured to the UK, obtaining a Chef’s Diploma from Lancaster and Morecambe College from 2004 to 2006, followed by a BA in Hospitality Management from Salford University in 2012.
Recently, Isalano was spotted alongside Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK, Manoah Esipisu, at the Kenya and Friends in the Park event in London’s Pitshanger Park. Esipisu commended Isalano’s achievements, emphasizing the positive representation of Kenyan talent on the global stage.
Isalano joins the ranks of esteemed Kenyan chefs who have left an indelible mark in the culinary world, including Bernice Kariuki, who previously served as a private chef for Arsenal FC. Kariuki, who hails from Jericho in Eastlands, attended local schools before pursuing her passion for cooking at Westminster Kingsway College.
Her culinary journey led her to prestigious establishments such as The Lanesborough, The Dorchester, and The Waldorf Hilton London, before securing a role as a private chef for Arsenal’s first team.
