Dr. Mercy Waithaka Urges Congregation: “Don’t Just Sit There, Do Something”

In a powerful sermon to the Liberty Church in Kibute, Kenya on Sunday, Dr. Mercy Waithaka delivered a stirring message centered around the theme: “Don’t just sit there, do something.” Drawing inspiration from biblical passages including Mark 10:46-52, Romans 10:17, and Hebrews 11:6, Dr. Mercy emphasized the importance of action and initiative in shaping one’s destiny.

Addressing the congregation, Dr. Mercy passionately articulated the need for proactive engagement in all aspects of life, be it personal growth, professional advancement, or entrepreneurial endeavors. She urged the attendees not to passively wait for opportunities to come their way but to actively seek them out and leverage their God-given talents and resources.

“Faith comes by hearing, but it is activated through action,” Dr. Mercy declared, referencing Romans 10:17. She stressed the need for individuals to step out in faith, trusting in the power of God to work through their actions. Through examples from scripture and personal anecdotes, Dr. Mercy illustrated how faith-driven action can lead to profound transformation and blessings.

Romans 10:17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Drawing parallels from the biblical narrative of Bartimaeus, as recounted in Mark 10:46-52, Dr. Mercy highlighted the importance of persistence and determination in the face of adversity. “Bartimaeus didn’t wait for someone to hand him a solution; he took action, he cried out to Jesus, and his faith made him whole,” she declared, prompting nods of agreement and murmurs of affirmation from the congregation.

Mark 10:46–52 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.

Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”

50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

51 So Jesus answered and said to him, What do you want Me to do for you?”

The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”

52 Then Jesus said to him, Go your wayyour faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

Furthermore, Dr. Mercy stressed the principle of stewardship, urging the faithful to utilize their God-given talents, resources, and opportunities for the betterment of themselves and their communities. “We are called to be good stewards of the blessings bestowed upon us,” she remarked. “Whether it’s in our careers, our businesses, or our relationships, let us not squander what we have been entrusted with but instead invest it wisely for the glory of God.”
