The officers intervened and managed to take the suspect into custody, but as they attempted to leave the scene, the crowd reportedly turned on them, pelting the police team with stones, according to witnesses and police accounts.
In response, officers fired several warning shots into the air in an effort to disperse the crowd and secure the suspect. However, the warning shots failed to deter the mob, and some bullets struck bystanders, resulting in three deaths and two injuries.
The escalating confrontation forced the police team to retreat from the village for their own safety. During the chaos, one officer lost a magazine belonging to a Jericho pistol, which police said had been loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition. The same officer sustained injuries to both hands and his legs after being struck by stones; he was treated and later discharged in fair condition. Another officer was hit by a stone on his left eye and was also reported to be in fair condition.
Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntuntu visited the scene and condemned the incident, warning residents against attempting to forcibly remove suspects from lawful custody. He described such actions as a crime, expressing regret over the loss of three lives and cautioning against similar incidents in the future.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary, while the injured continue to receive treatment in hospital, according to police.
