Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has urged fans attending African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches to arrive at the stadium at least five hours before kickoff.

He said the early arrival would ensure quick ticket verification, allow fans to enjoy pre-match entertainment, and guarantee smooth entry before the game begins.
“Fans should have their tickets ready on their mobile phones for swift checks. Don’t wait until the last minute — if the match is at 3 pm and you arrive at 2 pm, you are already too late,” Mohammed said, encouraging spectators to arrive early, relax, and enjoy the event.
He also stressed the need to strictly follow all security guidelines and instructions from stewards to ensure safe and efficient crowd movement.
“Following directions from security personnel ensures smooth flow in and out of the stadium and guarantees everyone’s safety,” he said, warning that persistent security breaches could attract severe sanctions from football authorities, potentially costing Kenyan fans the chance to host similar events in the future.
Past incidents have included forced entry by ticketless fans, breaches of the perimeter fence, the use of unauthorised physical tickets, loss of control at exit points, and chaotic scenes outside Kasarani Stadium, leading to crowd surges and the use of tear gas and flash grenades.
Due to repeated lapses during Kenya’s home matches, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed stricter measures for upcoming fixtures at Kasarani involving the host nation.

CAF said despite earlier warnings and sanctions, Kenya has failed to fully implement crowd management controls and meet its security requirements.
