Kenya has emerged as the global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, reflecting the rapidly growing use of AI tools among internet users in the country.
The Digital 2026 Mid-year Global Update Report shows that 97.5 percent of Kenyan internet users aged 16 and above use AI, placing the country at the top of the global rankings.
AI adoption has continued to expand in Kenya, with students, individuals, businesses and employees increasingly turning to the technology to improve productivity and simplify various tasks.

Companies are also integrating AI into their operations, using it to automate customer service, enhance credit assessment and improve other business processes.
Safaricom is among the Kenyan firms embracing AI, with the technology deployed across several services, including M-Pesa customer support and systems designed to detect financial fraud.
The United Arab Emirates ranked second globally, with an AI adoption rate of 94.2 percent, followed by Indonesia at 93.6 percent and Egypt at 93.4 percent.
Other African countries also recorded high levels of AI usage, with South Africa at 89.9 percent and Nigeria at 89.4 percent.
