A section of Mwingi residents has pushed back against remarks by Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi, who threatened to have a local NGO leave the area over its ongoing borehole drilling initiatives.
The MP had accused the organisation of sidelining him from the water projects, challenging it to either work with local leadership or take its borehole operations back to Canada.

Residents, however, have rejected this stance, arguing that Mwingi remains a water-stressed region that urgently needs such interventions to help address the challenges facing local communities.
The NGO has been drilling boreholes across the constituency as part of broader efforts to mitigate the impact of drought. According to residents, the projects come at a critical time, with many families currently forced to walk several kilometres in search of water, particularly during the ongoing dry season.

They have appealed to the government to step in and ensure the organisation is allowed to continue its work, stressing that access to water remains an urgent need for thousands of households in the area.
