Osotsi Denies Linda Mwananchi Split as Wamalwa Courts Sifuna

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has rejected reports of divisions within the Linda Mwananchi Movement, insisting that its leaders remain united in their efforts to build a political platform capable of forming the next government.

Osotsi alleged that the government was attempting to create divisions within the movement but maintained that the strategy would not succeed.

He said leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi continued to speak with one voice despite reports of disagreements among different factions and their supporters.

“All these leaders are speaking with one voice; Governor James Orengo, MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna,” Osotsi said.

“We are one. The only problem is the government, which is creating problems within Linda Mwananchi.”

His comments came as attention focused on the relationship between Sifuna and Babu Owino, whose supporters have recently exchanged criticism as Linda Mwananchi seeks to establish itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna has emerged as a leading figure in the movement and has increased his national mobilisation efforts. Babu, meanwhile, maintains a strong political base in Nairobi and has also presented himself as an important player in attempts to build a broader opposition alliance.

The reported differences have prompted debate over whether competing political ambitions could affect efforts to create a united opposition platform.

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has also weighed in, calling on Sifuna and Babu to resolve their differences and prevent divisions within the movement.

Speaking during his ongoing tour of the United States, Gachagua said he had separately contacted the two leaders after learning that their supporters were attacking each other publicly.

“I know there is a small challenge back home with Linda Mwananchi, supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino trading barbs,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua further alleged that the government was attempting to infiltrate the movement and take advantage of disagreements among its leaders.

“I placed a call to Edwin Sifuna, I had a long conversation and did the same with Babu. And I told them your Linda Mwananchi Movement is being infiltrated by the government and your supporters are falling for it,” he said.

Wamalwa Offers Sifuna DAP-K Option

Meanwhile, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has indicated that Sifuna could join his party and pursue his presidential ambitions under its banner.

Wamalwa said the option could be considered if efforts to register Linda Mwananchi as a political party continue to encounter challenges.

“Where there is a will, there is a way,” Wamalwa said.

“If the government is giving you problems registering Linda Mwananchi as a party, we are here ready to welcome you.”

The offer comes amid ongoing political realignment, with Sifuna having previously presented Linda Mwananchi as a potential vehicle for his wider national political ambitions.
