Trevor Ombija Claims Gachagua Wanted Him Fired From Citizen TV

Citizen TV journalist and Nyakach parliamentary aspirant Trevor Ombija has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sought his dismissal from Royal Media Services (RMS) following a heated television interview.

Ombija made the claim on Friday, September 18, while addressing residents in Nyakach as he stepped up his campaign for the parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The journalist said the alleged attempt to have him removed from RMS followed a tense interview with Gachagua in March 2026.

“As I stand here to address you, the former Deputy President Gachagua once called for my dismissal from work because we confronted each other,” Ombija said.

He further claimed that his ethnic background was raised during the dispute surrounding his position at the media company.

However, the allegation that Gachagua contacted RMS management to demand Ombija’s dismissal has not been independently verified. Neither Gachagua nor RMS had publicly responded to the claim by the time of publication.

The claim comes months after a tense interview between Gachagua and Ombija during which the former Deputy President accused the journalist of bias and unprofessional conduct.

Gachagua questioned the manner in which the interview was being conducted and accused Ombija of putting words into his mouth. He also described the programme as a “tribal show” while responding to questions about allegations of tribalism.

Ombija, however, maintained that Gachagua had requested the interview.

The journalist has since moved into active politics and is seeking to contest the Nyakach parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.

Ombija has also publicly expressed support for President William Ruto and the broad-based government, saying he believes in the administration’s development agenda. His entry into politics marks a shift from his career in broadcasting to elective politics.

The latest allegations have revived attention on the earlier confrontation between Ombija and Gachagua as the journalist builds his political campaign in Nyakach.
