The adjustment is part of broader reforms aimed at revitalising Kenya’s sugar industry and ensuring that farmers are fairly compensated for their produce.

Agriculture Principal Secretary Kipronoh Ronoh confirmed that all 15 licensed sugar millers—including state-owned mills currently under lease—must comply with the new minimum price.

He also emphasized the importance of timely payments to farmers.

“Following an analysis of ex-factory sugar prices from February to April 2025, the cane price has been revised upward to Sh5,500 per tonne, effective May 26, 2025,” said Ronoh.

“We urge all millers to strictly observe this new rate and ensure prompt payment to growers.”
