Police said dozens of passengers were injured and have been rushed to hospitals in Kiryandongo town for treatment. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

Authorities have attributed the tragedy to reckless overtaking, which they described as one of the major causes of fatal road accidents in Uganda. Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and avoid dangerous driving, especially on busy highways connecting Kampala to northern regions such as Gulu.
