Grief hung heavily over the International Christian Centre (ICC) along Mombasa Road on Friday as relatives and friends gathered for a memorial service to honour three siblings who lost their lives in a fatal road accident earlier this month.
The requiem mass was held in remembrance of Njeri DeLeon, Emmanuel DeLeon, and Kairo Winkelpeck, whose coffins were laid at the front of the church as mourners paid their final respects.
The siblings died following a crash on the Nairobi–Nakuru highway on January 4, 2026. Emmanuel and six-year-old Kairo were pronounced dead at the scene, while 16-year-old Njeri later passed away in a Nairobi hospital after days in a medically induced coma.
The family, residents of Waterloo, Iowa, had been visiting Kenya for the holiday season. Their parents survived the accident with minor injuries and have remained in the country to make burial arrangements.
The loss has drawn widespread sympathy in both Kenya and the United States. A GoFundMe campaign established to assist the family has received overwhelming support, raising more than $70,888 from hundreds of contributors.
Speakers at the service described the tragedy as devastating and beyond comprehension, offering prayers and words of comfort to the bereaved parents and extended family.
The three children are scheduled to be cremated later today at the Kariokor Hindu Crematorium, bringing to a close a farewell to siblings remembered for their warmth, happiness, and strong family bond.
