Dump Gachagua or Perish Politically, Kawaya Warns Kalonzo

Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya has cautioned the Kamba community to prepare for what he described as a certain victory for President William Ruto in the 2027 general election, warning that continued opposition politics could once again sideline the region from national leadership.

He predicted that President Ruto would win by an overwhelming margin and urged leaders from Ukambani to position themselves accordingly to avoid political irrelevance.

Speaking at the launch of the Sh50 million Mwala ESP Market project in Mwala Town, Kawaya issued a sharp warning to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his ongoing political cooperation with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Kawaya, the alliance offers no viable path to power and risks pushing Kalonzo into political isolation ahead of the 2027 polls. Kawaya, who serves as the UDA National Organising Secretary and is President Ruto’s chief mobiliser in Ukambani, dismissed suggestions that Kalonzo’s association with Gachagua could boost his presidential ambitions.

He described such claims as misleading narratives meant to deceive the Kamba community and said they did not reflect the political reality on the ground.

Kawaya pointed to what he termed a steady departure of key figures from Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), warning that the party could weaken significantly before 2027. He cited several leaders who have since shifted their support back to President Ruto, including Juja MP George Koimburi, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and Maragua MP Mary Wamaua.

He added that Gachagua’s political challenges have been accompanied by a shrinking circle of close allies, with many former supporters distancing themselves as they reassess their political interests.

Kawaya said these developments should serve as a cautionary signal to Kalonzo, urging him to interpret the political climate and avoid being left stranded politically, as he has been in previous election cycles.

He further argued that Gachagua’s partnership with Kalonzo and the opposition stems from the former deputy president’s search for political survival following his fallout with the Kenya Kwanza leadership.

In response, Gachagua has rejected claims that his party is disintegrating, insisting that those who have left are infiltrators or agents of President Ruto. He has accused UDA of deliberately working to undermine DCP by planting moles within its ranks.

Rather than expressing concern over the defections, Gachagua has portrayed them as part of the struggle against an entrenched ruling party and has, on various occasions, accused Mt Kenya leaders aligned with President Ruto of betraying their community.
