“President Bassirou is in Kenya to grace tomorrow’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County as the distinguished Guest of Honour,” Mvurya announced on his official social media pages.

Beyond the national ceremony, Faye will also undertake a State visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Kenya and Senegal, with discussions expected to cover trade, energy, innovation, youth empowerment, and cultural collaboration.

This year’s Mashujaa Day takes place during a period of national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away in India on October 15 at the age of 80. He was laid to rest with full military honours, including a 17-gun salute by the Kenya Defence Forces at his home in Bondo.

Despite the somber mood, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura affirmed that the celebrations will continue as scheduled at Ithookwe Stadium, citing Mashujaa Day as a constitutional public holiday that honours Kenya’s heroes and collective national identity.

Leaders from the Ukambani region, including Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, noted that the occasion will also serve to pay tribute to Raila as a national hero whose influence shaped Kenya’s history.

Mashujaa Day 2025 will centre on the role of energy as a driver of economic and social transformation, aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The celebration coincides with Energy Week 2025 — held from October 13 to 19 at Kitui Teachers Training College — under the theme “Transforming Lives through Sustainable Energy Solutions.” The initiative promotes access to clean, modern energy and encourages youth engagement in STEM careers and innovations in the energy sector.

Observers say President Faye’s visit underscores deepening Pan-African solidarity and a shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth across the continent.
