Some of the children wear shoes while others are barefoot, using plates to shield themselves from the rain. The video has since garnered over 1.7 million views on X, with users reacting emotionally and others seeking to identify the location in order to offer assistance.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also inquired about the location of the incident, while some online users speculated it may have been filmed in different parts of Africa, with suggestions pointing to Nigeria.
Reactions on social media have ranged from outrage to sympathy, with many condemning the situation and calling for urgent help for the children.
The video has also reignited debate about the growing hunger crisis across the continent. According to the World Food Programme, nearly 55 million people in West and Central Africa are facing food shortages.
Experts warn that the upcoming lean season between June and August could worsen the situation, particularly in countries such as Nigeria, Chad, and Niger. The crisis is being fueled by conflict, displacement, and declining international aid.

In regions like northeastern Nigeria and the Horn of Africa—including Kenya and Somalia—millions are already in urgent need of food and water due to prolonged drought.
Children remain the most at risk, with an estimated 13 million facing severe malnutrition. Meanwhile, aid agencies have been forced to cut back assistance due to funding shortfalls, raising fears that the crisis could deepen further in 2026 without increased global support.
