Sifuna Pushes for Opposition Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has called on opposition leaders to work together as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.

Speaking at Kivulini Grounds in Thika on June 14 during a meeting attended by residents and leaders affiliated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, Sifuna stressed that a united opposition would stand a stronger chance of unseating President William Ruto in the next election.

The senator argued that while different opposition factions may have the ability to challenge the current administration independently, cooperation and unity would enable them to achieve their political objectives more effectively.

“If our brothers led by Gachagua go alone, they can defeat William Ruto. If Linda Mwananchi goes alone, we can also defeat him. However, Kenyans want us to achieve that together, which is why unity is important,” Sifuna told the gathering.

His comments came in response to sentiments expressed by Irungu Kang’ata, who attended the event and encouraged Linda Mwananchi leaders to engage former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies in dialogue aimed at strengthening opposition cooperation.

Sifuna’s remarks have intensified speculation about possible collaboration between the Linda Mwananchi movement and other opposition groups as leaders explore the formation of a broader coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
