Oburu Oginga Breaks Silence on UK Medical Trip

ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has confirmed that he is in the United Kingdom for a routine medical examination, a day after the party said he was out of the country on official business.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Senator Oburu said he travelled to the UK on the recommendation of his doctors and with the knowledge of the party leadership to undergo a comprehensive medical check-up.

He said the trip would give him an opportunity to have a thorough assessment of his health while also taking time to rest and regain his energy.

The confirmation came after ODM announced on Wednesday that its Central Committee meeting had been led by Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati on Oburu’s behalf because he was “out of the country on official duties.”

At the time, the party did not reveal where Oburu was or mention that his absence was connected to medical matters.

Oburu’s latest statement is his first direct confirmation that he travelled abroad for health-related reasons. He described the check-up as routine and did not provide details about his medical condition.

Party Continuity

Oburu said his temporary absence would not disrupt the running of ODM, noting that stepping aside briefly would give the party’s leadership structures an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to operate effectively.

He said the routine health checks were part of the realities that come with advancing age and described his decision to take a step back as a deliberate and strategic moment for the party.

The ODM leader expressed confidence in his deputies, Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir, alongside the National Central Committee and the party secretariat, to oversee the movement in his absence.

Oburu said he had full confidence in their collective leadership, discipline and vision to continue steering the party.

Renewed Attention on His Health

The announcement comes amid renewed public interest in Oburu’s health following reports that he had visited hospital earlier this month.

On September 1, Oburu said he was doing well after undergoing a brief general medical check-up at a hospital before returning home.

He has now confirmed that he travelled to the UK for another routine medical assessment, although he has not disclosed any diagnosis or suggested that he is undergoing specialised treatment.

Oburu also called on ODM members and supporters to maintain unity and remain focused on the party’s broader national agenda.
