Julius Bitok, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Migration and Citizen Service, has announced that school principals will retain access to fees paid by parents through the eCitizen platform.
Bitok emphasized on Monday that the eCitizen payment system is both convenient and transparent.
“The eCitizen platform, managed by the Directorate of eCitizen, has established a payment collection process that ensures school principals receive funds for their schools promptly and in their entirety,” Bitok explained.
He highlighted that the Ministry of Education has instructed all national schools to provide their banking details to facilitate fee payments via the eCitizen platform.
The primary aim of this directive, according to the PS, is to standardize fee collection, improve coordination, and promote transparency and accountability.
“It will also establish an effective monitoring mechanism to ensure compliance with the relevant policies and regulations governing fee levies and payments in public secondary schools,” Bitok added.
Bitok outlined that the implementation of this new payment system will occur gradually, starting with national schools before extending to extra-county and county schools.
He stressed that the rollout of the payment process via eCitizen will involve consultation with stakeholders.
“We welcome discussions and additional contributions that align with the objectives of this directive,” Bitok concluded.
