In a statement on Thursday, Gachagua said his US tour had been “successful and fulfilling,” with engagements involving Kenyans in the diaspora. However, he explained that he must return home to work with the Democratic Congress Party ahead of the polls scheduled for November 27, 2025.
“I regret being unable to visit the remaining states as planned, but I need to be back in Kenya to join our party in preparing for the upcoming by-elections,” he said, adding that the postponed meetings would be rescheduled for early next year.
Gachagua apologised to organisers and Kenyans he had yet to meet, thanking them for their understanding. He also expressed gratitude to the Kenyan community in the US for their “love, warmth, and hospitality,” as well as to party officials in the diaspora for their “superb planning and coordination.”
The trip, which began on July 9, marked Gachagua’s first international travel since leaving office in October 2024. He had described it as an opportunity to engage both the Kenyan diaspora and international stakeholders on the state of the nation.
He was seen off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by political allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina, and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.
