The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has officially rebranded as Kenya Airports Authority PLC, marking its shift to public limited company status as part of the government’s broader push to reform state-owned enterprises.
The change was announced on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with the authority saying the new corporate structure is designed to boost governance standards and overall operational effectiveness. KAA was formally incorporated as a PLC on June 3, 2026, under the Companies Act of 2015 — a move that became possible after the Kenya Airports Authority Act (Cap. 395) was repealed on December 5, 2025, in line with the Government Owned Enterprises Act, 2025.

In its public announcement, KAA described the incorporation as a significant milestone, framing it as a new legal foundation that will allow the organization to pursue greater efficiency, innovation, and sustained performance within the aviation industry. This transition is part of a wider government initiative to overhaul how state corporations are governed and run, with the aim of improving accountability, commercial viability, and competitiveness.
KAA Managing Director and CEO Moses Wekesa expressed optimism about building on these reforms as the organization continues its work delivering airport services across the country.
Officials noted the timing aligns with Kenya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its aviation sector as a key driver of trade, tourism, and regional connectivity. KAA, which manages and operates the country’s airports, stressed that despite the shift in corporate status, its core mission remains unchanged — ensuring airport operations stay safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable.
The authority also reaffirmed its commitment to deepening industry partnerships and supporting continued growth in Kenya’s aviation space. This move from a statutory body to a company incorporated under standard corporate law represents a fundamental shift in how KAA is legally structured, completing a transition that began with the repeal of its founding legislation and culminated in its formal registration as a public limited company.
