Governor Johnson Sakaja on Thursday announced the creation of several public viewing centres across the city, beginning this Sunday when Harambee Stars take on Zambia in a key group stage match.
One fan zone is already operational at the National Archives in the city centre, with space for up to 500 supporters. It features paved walkways, decorative fixtures, and lighting for evening games.
“Harambee Stars have done us proud. Since not everyone can be at Kasarani, we’re bringing the excitement right into the heart of the city,” Sakaja said.
The governor added that more viewing zones are being set up at Uhuru Park, Jacaranda Grounds, Dandora, and other locations in partnership with the national government. Security officers will be on site to ensure order and guide fans.
Alongside City Hall’s efforts, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has established six official CHAN fan zones in Nairobi and nearby counties. These venues are designed to give Kenyans free, convenient spaces to rally behind the national team.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the initiative is about inclusivity and creating a shared football experience. “We want the spirit of CHAN to be felt everywhere, not just inside the stadiums,” he noted.
The CHAN 2024 tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, has already attracted large turnouts, with Harambee Stars currently topping Group A. With free entry, giant screens, and live feeds, organisers are urging fans to show up in numbers and cheer the team to victory.
