According to police reports, Nzioka succumbed to his injuries after his four-wheel drive collided with a trailer on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on the afternoon of Sunday, February 16. Authorities said he swerved to avoid a head-on crash with an approaching car, causing his vehicle to strike the trailer. He died instantly at the scene. His body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

It is believed that Nzioka may have been speeding as he was heading toward Nairobi. The crash, which occurred along one of Kenya’s most dangerous road sections, has reignited concerns about road safety. Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Nzioka, who was also the Headteacher of Donholm Primary School in Nairobi, was an experienced education professional. Over the years, he had served as the head of several schools in the city and was an outspoken critic of delayed government capitation funds, which have left many schools struggling.

In addition to his work in education, Nzioka was deeply involved in co-curricular activities. His contributions to sports administration led him to positions such as the Sub-County Chairman of the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association and National Vice-Chairperson in 2015. He also held the role of Organizing Secretary for the Federation of East African Primary Schools Headteachers, enhancing his influence in the region’s education sector.

Nzioka became the Acting National Chairman of KEPSHA after Nicholas Gathemia’s retirement on March 3, 2021. KEPSHA’s National Treasurer, Kennedy Kyeva, expressed his grief, describing Nzioka as a pillar of leadership in education. “We have lost a visionary leader, a champion for teachers’ welfare, and an advocate for quality education in Kenya. His passing is a major loss,” Kyeva said. Collins Oyuu, Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), praised Nzioka’s exemplary leadership, particularly his diplomatic skills and dedication to teacher welfare.
