Enock Kisuru was found hanging from a window grill in an isolated ward on Saturday, February 15, around 2:30 p.m.
MTRH CEO Dr. Phillip Kirwa confirmed the incident, explaining that Kisuru, a mental health patient, had been placed in a secure room after becoming violent. He had been alone in the room when he reportedly used his clothing to hang himself.
Dr. Kirwa confirmed that the police and the patient’s family had been notified.
“The family is expected to arrive today (Monday) at MTRH, and the police are also managing the situation,” said Dr. Kirwa.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Kirwa added that the hospital would issue an official statement regarding the incident.
The matter was also reported at Naiberi Police Station, with the report filed by Inspector Philemon Sirwa, head of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) at MTRH.
According to the OB report, a nurse from the ward explained that the deceased had become violent towards other patients and was placed in a secure room at 12:30 p.m. Later, at 1:45 p.m., staff found him hanging from a window grill using his clothing (a patient’s uniform).
