Kirinyaga County Assembly is mourning the death of nominated MCA Beatrice Njoki Mitaru, who passed away on August 24, 2026.
Mitaru, who represented Persons with Disabilities, died at around 3 a.m. while receiving treatment at Outspan Hospital in Nyeri, according to a notification from the Office of the Speaker.

She first joined the County Assembly as a Jubilee Party nominee after the 2017 General Election, serving during the Second County Assembly between 2017 and 2022. Following the 2022 elections, she was nominated again, this time through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and continued serving in the Third County Assembly.
At the time of her death, Mitaru was the Vice-Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Finance and Economic Planning. She was also a member of several other committees, including the County Assembly Business Committee, Women Caucus, Gender and Youth Committee, Environment, Water and Natural Resources Committee, and Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries Committee.
Outside the assembly, Mitaru served as the Leader and Chairperson of the Persons with Disabilities Chapter within the County Assemblies Forum (CAF).
Speaker Muteti Murimi mourned Mitaru as a committed public servant whose dedication had made a meaningful contribution to the County Assembly and the wider community. He said she would be remembered for her selflessness, teamwork and commitment to public service.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru also expressed her condolences, describing Mitaru as a dedicated public servant who spent years serving the people. She praised her advocacy for inclusion and the rights of persons with disabilities, saying her warmth, commitment and spirit of service would be deeply missed.
Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango described Mitaru as a compassionate individual and capable leader whose public service was marked by humility, dedication and commitment.
Mitaru was also among the 2026 graduating class of Mount Kenya University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and Governance.
